With over 500 members, Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Irwin Wiener and Cantor Ronda Polesky, is one of the largest Reform synagogues in the Chandler area. Services are held once a month, on the second Friday of the month, beginning at 7:30 PM, at The Sun Lakes Chapel, located on Sun Lakes Boulevard. In addition, during the summer and at certain times during the rest of the year, Twilight Services are offered. The prayer book in use is Gates of Prayer, and most services are enhanced with the voices of the congregations choir, under the direction of Lana Oyer. Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat, where members enjoy a tasty nosh and the opportunity to socialize with old friends and make new friends.
New members are always introduced and welcomed at each service.
High Holidays are observed in the traditional manner throughout Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Holidays are marked by a community Passover Seder and a special Chanukah event.
Sisterhood and Men’s Club are an integral part of Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation. There are several committees that serve our members, including Ritual, Caring, Bereavement, Interfaith Dialogue, and Chapel Board. A congregation newsletter, The Shpiel, is sent to all members ten times a year.
Through the Interfaith Council, Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation enjoys a close relationship with several area churches and participates in many interfaith events. One of the highlights of the year is the Interfaith Choir performance and the Pulpit Exchange.
New members are warmly welcomed. To learn more about Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, please call congregation President Gail Dante at 480-802-1832
